Desolation Sound: a 7-night plan

Desolation Sound is the reward at the top of the Strait of Georgia: bathtub-warm water, deep quiet anchorages, and a small ring of welcoming marinas. This week assumes you're starting from the Lund/Sunshine-Coast gateway. The rapids guarding the back door (Yuculta, Gillard, Dent toward the Discovery Islands) are slack-water transits — consult the official current tables and local guidance; never time a rapid from an app.

Night 1 — Lund

The end of the road and the gateway to the Sound. Fuel, provision, and tie up at Lund Harbour — it's the last full resupply before the anchorages.

Nights 2–3 — Cortes Island

Gorge Harbour Marina Resort is the hub: fuel, store, restaurant, and a sheltered basin. Day-trip to the classic stops — Squirrel Cove and Cortes Bay have community docks, and Refuge Cove across the water is first-come and worth a stop for the store.

Nights 4–5 — into the Sound

Now the payoff: anchor out in the warm coves (Prideaux Haven, Tenedos, Roscoe) and swim. Marinas thin out here, so carry good ground tackle and a backup plan. Toba Wilderness is a remote option up Toba Inlet if you want a dock and a waterfall hike.

Nights 6–7 — Quadra Island & the way back

Work toward Quadra: Heriot Bay Inn is a friendly pub-and-dock, April Point the resort marina, and Discovery Harbour in Campbell River the full-service stop to reprovision before heading south.
